Are you Phoenix-bound in less than two weeks? You should be!
And if this is your first annual convention, the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association has some useful tips for navigating the event and making the most out of every minute. So here goes!
1. Map out what sessions you want to attend.
The convention is, first and foremost, a business opportunity. The night before the convention begins, map out which sessions you want to attend and note their room numbers. That way, you’ll be able to get all of the information you want for your company without missing a key session.
2. Go to the exhibit hall.
The exhibit hall is a must-see for everyone attending the convention. You’ll see vehicles, dispatch systems, fleet services, and much, much more. Set aside time in your schedule, or before you know it, the convention will have ended and you won’t have set foot in the hall. Trust us; it can happen. Oh, and lots of the exhibitors give away cool swag, but you can’t fill up your goodie bag if you don’t attend!
3. Wear comfortable shoes.
It’s not unheard of for members to walk miles and miles over the course of the convention, and that excludes the golf tournament. You’ll want to enjoy the convention without killing your feet, and comfortable shoes are the key to doing just that. I mean, hey, it’s not a fashion contest. It’s about business (with a lot of fun mixed in).
4. Meet the new president.
Bill Scalzi will be introduced as the next TLPA president at the convention. If you see him, go introduce yourself! He will spend his year at the helm of TLPA advocating on behalf of the industry. You’re a part of that industry, so say, “Hello.” And if you want an intro, just stop by the TLPA booth and we’ll be happy to help.
5. Make a friend.
Everyone attending the convention has something very basic in common: the transportation industry. So chat up someone sitting next to you in a session or at the kick-off party. Find a mentor. Make a friend. You will find that people who attend our conventions are exceedingly helpful. After all, someone helped them at their first convention!
6. Stop by the TLPA booth.
The TLPA staff, our legislative team, and our public relations team will be available at the TLPA booth. So come by to say, “Hi,” ask a question, or just chat about the industry with us. Don’t be shy — it’s why we’re there.
7. Bring a costume!
Ok, so it’s not ALL business! The convention kicks off on Halloween, and that hasn’t gone unnoticed by TLPA. For the first time, the convention will begin with a Halloween-themed “Howl at the Moon” party. The party does require advance sign-up, and you can do that here. The party will include tons of food, an open bar, a DJ, and dancing. If you bring a costume, you can even win a prize — no trick, just treats!
Can’t wait to see you in Phoenix!
