Geoffrey Riesel’s first job at Radio Taxis was emptying the trash cans.
But after moving on from garbage duty and navigating a career trajectory in transportation, Riesel has found himself a new title: Deputy Chairman of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry — one of the oldest and most respected chambers in the world.
“It’s a real honor for me. I only hope I’m up to the task,” he says, jokingly.
Riesel currently serves as an international vice president for the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association, a post he took over in 2009 amid a successful career in the taxi industry. Between 2000 and 2010, he was a director at TLPA.
Riesel has held almost every post possible in the taxi industry. He started driving a cab in London in August 1973. He did that for almost four years, before departing from the industry to start his own furnishing business. He returned to driving in 1984.
In the years that followed, he worked in almost every aspect of Radio Taxi’s business. He ran operations, worked in finance and sales, computerized the fleet, was elected to Radio Taxis’ board, became the chairman, and sold the company to GETT in May 2016. He’s now the chairman of Mountview House Group, which is owned by GETT.
Riesel has used his business acumen to support business in the greater London area. He has served on the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) board for more than 15 years. In 2015, he was appointed to the audit and risk committee, before being elected deputy chairman earlier this year. The chamber is charged with advocating on behalf of businesses to the local and national government. Riesel will maintain his position with the Mountview House Group while in his new role with the chamber.
To him, his appointment shows how, even during trying times, our industry remains an important part of commercial life in London
“The chamber has all the big companies, lots of patron members, lots of big organizations,” he says, “and this shows the industry is highly respected.”
Congratulations to Geoffrey on his new post with the LCCI!
