Celebrating a Safe Fourth of July

According to the National Safety Council, Fourth of July weekend is one of the deadliest holidays of the year, especially when it comes to drunk driving.

And honestly, we get it — who doesn’t love to crack open a drink while barbecuing with the family or watching the fireworks?

But drunk driving — even buzzed driving — kills. Between 6 p.m. July 2 and 5:59 a.m. July 6, 2015, 146 people were killed in motor vehicle accidents where at least one driver had a BAC of .08 or higher. That is almost two deaths per hour. That’s a painful number.

Let’s not top that number this year.

Now, not to toot our own horn, but we know a safe way to get around during this incredible holiday: taxis.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has created an app allowing users to call a taxi or friend and identify their location so they can be picked up. You can check it outhereif you have an Apple device andhereif you have an Android.

Seriously, if you can’t stay overnight wherever you’re partying, pick up a phone and call a taxi to get you home. You can come get your car the next day; it’ll still be there. And more importantly, you and it will both be in one piece.

So this Independence Day weekend, please stay safe. There’s nothing in the world that’s worth getting into a car crash for.
